Dear SPP Families,
Thank you for a beautiful week with the saints! Your children did a splendid job representing their chosen saints at our All Saints Assembly, and the Hallowe'en Carnival brought our parish community together. Around forty kids from other schools attended Catholic Hallowe'en event as well; perhaps some of them will join our school community in the near future :) A special thank-you to every parent and middle schooler who volunteered, and a special thank you to the Knights of Columbus, the Rojo Family, Ortega Family, Castrejon Family, Munoz Family, Chaidez Family, Mendez Twins, and to the Avila Family for assisting Father with his Catholic ghost story at the beginning of the program and assisting those symbolically bashing the "seven deadly sins" out of the Pinata at the end.
Tomorrow is All Souls Day, and the Church gives us all of November to pray for the Holy Souls in purgatory. Our school ofrenda is now up for Día de los Muertos. If you haven't yet sent the names of your loved ones who have died, please email them to rcarmony@sppschool.org. We will add them to our ofrenda and remember them in our prayers all month long.
A beautiful family practice this week: from November 1 to 8, the Church offers a plenary indulgence, applicable to the souls in purgatory, to those who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead (with the usual conditions of Confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Holy Father's intentions). Consider bringing your children to visit the graves of family members and praying together for them.
Our Virtue: Obedience (Final Week, through Friday, Nov. 6)
This is our last week with the virtue of Obedience. Please keep going through the daily tracker in your child's Obedience Packet each evening. Remember that obey comes from the Latin ob-audire, "to listen toward." Ask your child this week: How well did you listen today? How did you say yes to God through practicing obedience?
The Holy Souls teach us something about obedience, too. They have accepted God's will completely and wait for Him with perfect trust. When we pray for them, we join them in that listening.
The next virtue we will highlight will be, courage, beginning Monday, Nov. 9, through Nov. 20th.

As we begin the month of the Holy Souls, we invite you to pray this short prayer with your children:

With gratitude and prayers,
Rachelle
